1. Is ATEX compliance legally required in the UAE?
ATEX is formally an EU directive, but across the UAE it’s widely adopted as the reference standard for hazardous-area equipment, often alongside IECEx certification and local Civil Defence requirements. Most insurers and EPC contractors will specify ATEX compliance as their baseline expectation even where it isn’t a direct legal mandate.
2. What’s the difference between Ex d and Ex e protection?
Ex d (flameproof) enclosures are designed to contain an internal explosion; Ex e (increased safety) enclosures instead prevent sparks or excessive heat from occurring in the first place. Most flameproof exhaust fans, including ours, use Ex d protection because moving mechanical parts make full ignition prevention harder to guarantee.
3. Can one fan cover both gas and dust hazardous zones?
Only if it’s specifically rated for both, a fan certified for gas groups IIA-IIC won’t automatically cover Zone 21/22 dust classifications unless the enclosure and IP rating have been separately tested and certified for dust ingress.
4. How often should certified equipment be re-inspected?
